While we’re apart, let’s come together for World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day, October 10 2020, is here. The challenges of 2020 have been felt by everyone – that’s why we, the team, wanted to show our full support for this initiative. We’ll also share the ways we’ve come together to support our colleagues in the hope that this helps many others to reach out to those around them, while prioritizing their own wellbeing.

World Mental Health Day is spearheaded by the World Health Organization, in partnership with United for Global Mental Health and the World Federation for Mental Health. For all of the information about 2020’s campaign, visit the WHO website.

World Health Organization

2020 and its many challenges

The year 2020 often trends on Twitter, and not usually with the most positive messaging. The COVID-19 virus, natural calamities, worldwide economic contractions; you name it, 2020 will top it. This year has brought us so many challenges that it has taken its toll on our collective mental health. Students and employees have had to adapt to the new normal of learning and working from home with no face-to-face interaction with their peers and colleagues. While we all stay at home to help stop the spread of COVID-19, this brings with it the effects of social isolation. Plus, for many who are in industries which have been hard-hit by the effects of the pandemic, there’s a lot of anxiety about what the future holds.

It’s also an important moment to pause and think of the strain this has placed on our healthcare workers who have relentlessly battled to keep us safe in incredibly challenging conditions, many of whom have to live with the fear of bringing COVID-19 home with them.

Given the widespread impact being felt around the world from the measures in place, it’s of course expected that the need for mental health support will rise in the coming years. That’s why, this year’s theme for World Mental Health day is around an investment in mental health services. The WHO has already identified a special initiative for mental health, with the goal being that 100 million people have access to quality and affordable mental health services by 2023. This means improving access to crucial services and increasing the number of professionals within this field.

’s investment in mental health

World Mental Health Day gives us a chance to reflect on what we can do to make things better for those around us., as part of the DataFlow group, makes sure to invest in the wellbeing of our employees – particularly while we are all working from home.

Spearheaded by our Management team, and with our Human Resources department doing the groundwork, we make sure that working from home does not mean that our employees miss out on the camaraderie found in group settings. Now, more than ever, we have doubled up on our employee outreach and engagement, hosting game days fortnightly, TEDX-style talks from our key executives, and of course, valuable feedback from anyone who wishes to provide their insight. Our doors are always open to anyone of our employees who wants to point out potential roadblocks that will hinder us as individuals and as an organization.

Taking care of you first

The goal for World Mental Health Day 2020 is increased investment in mental health which is precisely what we, as an organization, have done for the past few months. We also want to reiterate that taking care of YOUR mental health is more valuable than any other investment.

We partnered with My Wellbeing Lab to offer mental health consultations at a discounted price, exclusively for Members.

Register here
