Too bad it’s your phone. You hit snooze so many times that you’re now late like that old Manic Monday song. There’s demotivation and then there’s Demotivation. And you don’t know how to overcome your mental obstacles. The good thing is, like everything else, it’s only temporary.

Look for a reason to get up in the mornings

Set your alarm to play your most favorite song. Think of that cute nurse in the OR. Try that red red lipstick and be a hot mama today. Think of the money that you’re going to earn. Of your family and all your sacrifices to be where you are. Think of that poor patient in Ward 349 whom nobody ever visits. Think of whatever you need to think to get you right up in the mornings.

Find meaning in your work

A happy worker is a worker who finds purpose in whatever he does. Demotivation and mental obstacles can be easily overcome when there is meaning in your work. People in the healthcare profession are very fortunate because what they do is serve people in need. It’s not hard to reach for meaning when you serve others every day.

Work hard or take a vacation

A change of scenery can reset your mind.

You may be experiencing ennui because you’ve got too much time on your hands. You know what the solution to that is. Work harder or get busy. Which is a bonus because you’ll be productive. Or maybe you’re just experiencing the opposite. You need to take a break from working too hard if you’re facing burnout. Don’t be too hard on yourself because you’re not a robot. As The Artist Formerly Known As Prince said, “I need love… and water.” Take the time to enjoy life, not just work.

Change your attitude

We all complain about things in life, it’s just normal. It’s okay to rant, warranted even. But don’t linger too long and let the negative feelings fester. If it’s something that you can control, change it. If it’s something that you cannot do anything about, let it go and accept it as is. It will just cause you frustration if you continue to dwell on it.

Forge on

What separates the champions from the also-rans is guts. We all were given equal opportunities, but those who forge on emerge as winners. You will never know how much you can suffer through and how much you are capable of achieving until after you have done it. What is important is that you try.

If you have not already signed up to, sign up now!
