Healthcare Challenges - Achieving KSA’s 'Vision 2030'

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has its eye firmly on the future. The GCC country launched ‘Vision 2030’, a roadmap to achieve the nation’s potential, back in 2016. Saudi Arabia has been working hard to unlock investment opportunities and launch and build platforms for growth while increasing its citizens’ quality of life. One of the main healthcare challenges and focuses is to improve the quality and delivery of healthcare services and facilities across the country.

The 2030 Vision Realization Program consists of strategic objectives. One such goal is for a ‘Thriving Economy.’ KSA plans to grow and diversify its economy and increase employment opportunities.

Increasingly, international patients are traveling to KSA for medical tourism, a country known for being one of the best at handling the Covid-19 pandemic. International patients can avail themselves of new health and wellness tourism packages in the Kingdom. This growth means that Saudi needs to hire international healthcare professionals to help achieve and support their vision.

The HTSP focuses on 4 key objectives.

In 2021, KSA launched the ‘Health Sector Transformation Program’ (HTSP) to restructure its healthcare system to focus on patient satisfaction, safety, and care. KSA hopes to continue the development of healthcare services by, “implementing and following the best evidence-based international standards, establishing and enabling integrated health care systems that cover all regions of the Kingdom by activating meaningful procurement of services and enhancing societal awareness of traffic and safety.”

The updated value-based care, “ensures transparency and financial sustainability by promoting public health and preventing diseases.” The vision also aims to improve access to services by digitizing the health sector by expanding e-health services, like telemedicine, launching digital applications (Mawid and Sehaty), and increasing service coverage throughout the country. KSA aims to unify 100% of the population’s medical records through digital systems.

The HTSP will focus on the following four key objectives:

Facilitating access to healthcare services

Improving the quality and efficiency of health services

Promoting prevention of health risks

Enhancing traffic safety

Here we discuss 4 ways that KSA can achieve their goals outlined in the ‘Health Sector Transformation Program’ (HTSP) as part of Vision 2030 effectively:

Healthcare Challenges – Achieving KSA’s Vision 2030

1. International Talent

The KSA relies heavily on international talent to fill healthcare vacancies. While many talented healthcare professionals may tick all the right boxes, language barriers must be overcome between caregivers and patients. Sourcing and hiring pre-verified healthcare staff with the right credentials will break down these barriers.

2. Innovative Technology

While Saudi’s vision commits to provide 88% of the population with inclusive health services by 2025, many of these services must be delivered remotely. Resources need to be put in place to make this vision a reality and ensure that the time required to provide health care is within 4 hours of arrival, as 87% of patients experienced in 2020.

3. Delivering High-Quality Care

Since the onset of the pandemic, there has been a 30% increase in employment certificate fraud rates. Diploma mills are thriving and handing education certificates out to those who pay for credentials without the education. International healthcare job candidates focusing on a career in Saudi must continue to be authorized and verified to work safely to help achieve a continuum of patient satisfaction, safety and care.

4. Streamlining the Delivery of Care

Health and wellbeing are at the core of Vision 2030. Digitizing records, the continued verification of healthcare staff, upholding standards, improving data protection and patient safety, delivering remote care, investing in underserved areas, increasing prevention awareness, using innovative technologies and hiring national and international talent to stem skills shortages will further sustainability within the sector.

Delivering healthcare in an integrated and safe way to serve the Saudi population and medical tourists will allow KSA to exceed Vision 2030 effectively.

Are you looking to hire new talent from overseas? We have a growing pool of pre-verified Members who are ready to join your team.
