Overview
We are looking for a qualified NICU Nurse with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and currently licensed in the country of origin and with DOH, DHA, MOH to practice in the UAE. With a minimum of 2 years nursing experience in NICU, the qualified candidate must have a current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certificate. Fluent in spoken and written English, Arabic language is desirable, but not essential. The NICU Nurse manages patient’s care in the allocated area ensuring a good standard of care is provided.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides direct care and related duties in critical care and maintains current knowledge of critical care nursing practice and standards.
Plans, implements and evaluates nursing care given to assigned neonates in an effective and organized manner.
Responsible for keeping the infant receiving articles like warmer, suction, oxygen and AMBU bag, ET tubes etc. ready.
Responsible for receiving the infant from the labor room/ operating room.
Demonstrates complete skill in performing immediate newborn care procedures like clamping the cord, checking cord pulsation, insertion of nasogastric / orogastric tube, gastric lavage, aspiration, administration of Inj. Vitamin K, and check for anal patency.
Responsible for placing the correct Identification Band on the newborn infant’s hand and also taking the footprint.
Performs newborn assessment including anthropometric measurements.
Demonstrates adequate knowledge and skill in assessing and caring for newborn with congenital abnormalities.
Responsible for initial assessment and stabilization of the newborn in the neonatal intensive care unit, placing the infant on continuous hemodynamic monitoring, maintaining thermoregulation, performing capillary glucose monitoring etc.
Demonstrates deep knowledge in the care of infants under phototherapy.
Assesses and documents vital signs including SpO2, at specified frequency as per hospital policy.
Performs or assists with feedings i.e. breastfeeding or gavage feeding.
Performs baby bath, cord care and eye care meticulously for the infants.
Performs newborn screening test including audiometry.
Provides for the physical, psychological and social needs of the patient and families.
Predominant role in preparation, administration and documentation of medication.
Performs a wide range of nursing procedures with attention to accuracy, patient safety and comfort, including those requiring strict aseptic technique.
Assists with transfer of newborn / infant within the health care facilities and serves as transport nurse for newborn / infant during ambulance transport.
Provides health education to the infants’ parents about care of infants at home including breastfeeding and immunization.
Competent in neonatal resuscitation and performs when needed.
